Writer's Block

I’m experiencing a bit of writer’s block lately. Not only is that a problem but my memory is crappier than normal. I’ll get a random blog idea I want to write about but I won’t be close enough to anything to write it down. I’ll swear I’ll remember because it’s an awesome idea and then when it comes to writing I’ve got nothing. I can’t even recall the topic I was so interested in. So I’ve decided to use a prompt today, just so I can stretch out these fingers. I use to visit livejournal.com a while back and remembered they would have these daily writers block questions for those interested. I’d always ignore them before because writing was not much of an interest to me back then. Well, good thing I remember because I’m going to use one right now.

So the question I’ve picked to answer today is: If you had to choose, what couple from TV, cinema, or literature, would you choose as your parents?

Just to set this straight mom and dad…you are not a couple from tv, cinema or literature so I obviously can’t choose the most awesome parents that exist…enough ass-kissing, I’m moving on.

My answer came easily and yet most of you won’t even know who they are. My choice would Coach Taylor and Tami Taylor from Friday Night Lights.

I will admit that after watching just one episode I wasn’t sure about this show. It’s based in a football obsessed town in Texas. It stays true to the film style of the movie it’s based on, which some might find annoying. But once you get use to it and you allow time for the characters to develop you might find yourself very interested in this show. You don’t even have to be a football fan to enjoy. It’s really focuses on the life in this town and just happens to highlight football. I suggest you give it a try. But enough about the show…what makes these two great parents?

First off, they love each other. They respect each other. They work together. They are a team. I think parenting is a whole lot easier when you have someone you respect by your side and supports your decisions. They are open with each other and share their problems and yet give the other one space when needed. They seem to have the same moral beliefs and put up a united front whenever dealing with issues from their daughter or any of the students they are involved with. In short, they rock!

Gosh, I feel like I’m taking the easy way out by saying they rock but as I was making a list of what they’ve done I realized it’s just a list. Unless you’ve seen the show you wouldn’t really get a feel for their characters. The one thing that has stuck in my head from the moment I first watched it on tv was Coach Taylor being told he was a “molder of men.” It was true. I hadn’t even put those simple pieces together in the show. You watch him coach football and you see many of the students grow up and leave and when you look, each one is better for having known Coach Taylor. Now I don’t want to leave out Tami…as a high school counselor she does the same thing with her students. I suppose since I was never a troubled student I will never know the caliber my high school counselors were but I know if Desmond is ever a troubled student, I want him to have someone like Tami Taylor at his school.

What couple would you choose?

On the Cusp

I feel I’m on the cusp of something; the cusp of change. But I’m not even sure what exactly. I’ve been having this overwhelming sensation that something is just around the corner. I’m at a point in my life where I’m feeling the need to accomplish something. And in the past year I’ve seen it can be literally almost anything ranging from blogging to roller derby. I have the desire to work with elephants. I have the desire to enlarge my family. I feel the desire to write a book. I literally just feel the desire. Ok, am I making sense? I once even wanted to sign up for improv classes at Second City…I think my inner superstar is asking to come out. I just need to figure out what that inner superstar wants.

I know it’s a short and random blog today but I couldn’t ignore this feeling...it feels like it's itching to burst out. This provided some small relief.

Have I Seen You Before?

A while back facebook had a thread going where people change their profile picture to a celebrity they had been compared too. And at the time, I had none. Must mean that I’m 100% original right? But a few weeks past, the fad on facebook faded and that’s when I found my “celebrity” match. Her name is Katie Featherston, the chick from Paranormal Activity. Now I watched the movie before anyone suggested her as my look-a-like and I didn’t see the similarities but it might have been because I was so distracted because she was acting like me 100% in the movie. It was like watching me on screen. (And now that I think about the similar looks probably helped add to the creepiness factor.) I kid you not, I would pause the movie and look at my husband and say something like “oh hell, no! I’d want out of that house.” Then I’d go back, unpause the movie, and the character would say “oh hell, no! I want out of this house!” It was eerie how close my reactions were to hers. I should sue her for stealing my freak-out essence; apparently it could make me some money. (What do you think? She look like me?)

But there’s one more character that I would like to mention. Paul Rudd played a guy with no male friends in I Love You, Man. I swear as I watched this movie, I was watching myself. Though we may not look-a-like at all; his awkward attempts at making friends is how I feel on a daily basis. I am not without friends and I know my friends would say I’m not shy but things are different when you put me in a close-knit group of people. Remove me from that and I’m lost. So, meeting new people for the first time is really hard for me. Starting up a conversation and maintaining it is nearly impossible. Not to mention my total lack of being able to think on the fly. So Paul Rudd gets an honorable mention for being my amazingly awkward twin. And I highly suggest if you’ve never seen I Love You, Man then please do. (And think of me, you might remember a less confident Michelle.)

And then there's this kid...Charlie McDermott. Come on! He could be my little brother, no?

Who’s your celebrity twin?
