Writer's Block

I’m experiencing a bit of writer’s block lately. Not only is that a problem but my memory is crappier than normal. I’ll get a random blog idea I want to write about but I won’t be close enough to anything to write it down. I’ll swear I’ll remember because it’s an awesome idea and then when it comes to writing I’ve got nothing. I can’t even recall the topic I was so interested in. So I’ve decided to use a prompt today, just so I can stretch out these fingers. I use to visit livejournal.com a while back and remembered they would have these daily writers block questions for those interested. I’d always ignore them before because writing was not much of an interest to me back then. Well, good thing I remember because I’m going to use one right now.

So the question I’ve picked to answer today is: If you had to choose, what couple from TV, cinema, or literature, would you choose as your parents?

Just to set this straight mom and dad…you are not a couple from tv, cinema or literature so I obviously can’t choose the most awesome parents that exist…enough ass-kissing, I’m moving on.

My answer came easily and yet most of you won’t even know who they are. My choice would Coach Taylor and Tami Taylor from Friday Night Lights.

I will admit that after watching just one episode I wasn’t sure about this show. It’s based in a football obsessed town in Texas. It stays true to the film style of the movie it’s based on, which some might find annoying. But once you get use to it and you allow time for the characters to develop you might find yourself very interested in this show. You don’t even have to be a football fan to enjoy. It’s really focuses on the life in this town and just happens to highlight football. I suggest you give it a try. But enough about the show…what makes these two great parents?

First off, they love each other. They respect each other. They work together. They are a team. I think parenting is a whole lot easier when you have someone you respect by your side and supports your decisions. They are open with each other and share their problems and yet give the other one space when needed. They seem to have the same moral beliefs and put up a united front whenever dealing with issues from their daughter or any of the students they are involved with. In short, they rock!

Gosh, I feel like I’m taking the easy way out by saying they rock but as I was making a list of what they’ve done I realized it’s just a list. Unless you’ve seen the show you wouldn’t really get a feel for their characters. The one thing that has stuck in my head from the moment I first watched it on tv was Coach Taylor being told he was a “molder of men.” It was true. I hadn’t even put those simple pieces together in the show. You watch him coach football and you see many of the students grow up and leave and when you look, each one is better for having known Coach Taylor. Now I don’t want to leave out Tami…as a high school counselor she does the same thing with her students. I suppose since I was never a troubled student I will never know the caliber my high school counselors were but I know if Desmond is ever a troubled student, I want him to have someone like Tami Taylor at his school.

What couple would you choose?

  1. Hmmm, this is a hard one. I would have to go with Major Dad. No reason other than he was easy to respect, loved his wife and step kids, and his wife was free enough to compensate.
